Satellite tagging revealed a previously unknown behavior of white sharks. Each winter, numerous white sharks travel long distances to concentrate in the Pacific where they remain as long as six months. During this time, both males and females make frequent, repetitive dives to depths of 300 m. The purpose of this behavior has yet to be determined, but researchers surmise that this area may have significance in either feeding or reproduction. Future research aims to uncover more detail about this little-understood phase in the lives of white sharks.
