Polar Award Recipients
Angelika Brandt was the second recipient of the prestigious SCAR Medal for outstanding service to Antarctic Research.
The Executive Committee of the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) honored CeDAMar scientist Angelika Brandt with the SCAR Medal for outstanding service to Antarctic research. Angelika was only the second person to receive the medal, which is awarded every two years. The award ceremony took place during the plenary opening session of the SCAR Open Science Conference in St. Petersburg, Russia in July 2007.
Elizabeth Huck and Eduardo Klein honored by President Hugo Chavez
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez presents Census Caribbean scientist Elizabeth Huck with the highest recognition for a non-military citizen for her participation in Venezuela’s first expedition to Antarctica. Fellow researcher Eduardo Klein was also honored.
CoML Caribbean scientists Eduardo Klein and Elizabeth Huck from Universidad Simon Bolivar in Caracas were honored by Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on 21 August 2008 for their participation in Venezuela’s first expeditions to Antarctica, in which they carried out biodiversity studies related to the Census of Antarctic Marine Life (CAML) project. They received the Orden Libertador Simon Bolivar, Third Class, the highest recognition for a Venezuelan civilian.
Lucia Campos honored by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva
Census Scientist Lucia Campos was recognized for her leadership in Antarctic research.
On a visit to Antarctica, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, presented CAML scientist Lucia Campos with a national award for her work in that region.
